Hastings Pirate Day plans unveiled for July
The much loved Hastings Pirate Day is planned to return this summer but in a different format and now spanning a weekend.
The event, which is planned to run between Friday July 16 and Sunday 18, will avoid mass gatherings and will not be going for a record attempt of most pirates in one place.
Re-named Hastings Pirate Weekend Gallivant, it aims to support local pubs and businesses which have been hot by the pandemic.
Organiser Anton Burton Windsor said: “We are planning a weekend packed with entertainments, side shows and music at venues and heritage sites all over town.
“However, as safety of the public and pirate crew is paramount we will not be able to offer the usual mass gathering points, no central stage, no world records and no Pirate parade.
“What we will offer is something for everyone, with a few surprises along the way, whilst supporting our local businesses, and raising much needed funds for 2022.
“All of this is totally dependent on the ongoing Covid situation, gaining sufficient funding and the agreement and support of the lcoal authorities.
“In the meantime, keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates and news. Please consider giving generously to the crowd funder launching soon. This is your event and it’s you that makes it happen.
“Dust off that fantastic Pirate attire, weigh anchor and look forward to calm seas ahead.”
Hastings still holds the Guinness World Record for most pirfates in one place, with a total of 14,231 people in July 2012.
