"The police have been called, and board members are on hand to help deal with the situation," the spokesman added.

East Sussex County Council said, despite the group being on private land, they had been made aware of the situation.

A spokesman said: “We working with the landowner and police to carry out initial checks and an assessment before a decision is made on what enforcement powers can be used.”

The group has since left the grounds, according to an eyewitness.
