Special mention to well-known Eastbourne driving instructor

Duncan Gray, a driving instructor from Hampden park, has run Target Driving School for more than 40 years.

Marie Hylands, a former student of Duncan who is now a qualified driving instructor herself, wanted to give him recognition for his positive attitude through the pandemic and his desire to keep working despite his age and the risk it puts him at.

Duncan has just had his instructor license renewed for the next four years, so he shows no signs of slowing down any time soon either.

Marie said Duncan asked if he could continue teaching frontline workers through the pandemic.

She said, “He’s in the high risk group but doesn’t care, he doesn’t think of himself he just wants to help any way he can.

“He is an outstanding driving instructor and the entire time I’ve known him he’s put his pupils first.

“At 85 it is so special to be thinking how he can continue to teach through the pandemic and totally shows his character of needing to be out teaching.”

When told of the praise, Duncan said, “I’m absolutely gobsmacked, I don’t know what to say. It’s very nice of Marie.”
