PIONEERING JUNE STANDS DOWN

JUNE Lambert, whose tireless work saw the East Sussex Federation of Women's Institutes move to new headquarters at Hailsham during the year, has stepped down from the office of Federation Chairman.

She announced her decision at the annual council meeting last week, held for the first time in Hove Town Hall. The announcement came as a surprise, but is certainly understandable after such a stressful year.

Members of the Federation's Board of Trustees presented her with a bouquet.

The new Federation Chairman is Mrs Dorothy Pope, former treasurer of the Federation, who also played a major role in the sale of headquarters in Lewes and the purchase of the building in Falcon Way.

The new building, officially opened by the Mayor of Hailsham in March, cost less than the Federation received from the sale of premises in Lewes and the balance has been placed in the House Endowment Fund to ensure the future of the Federation for years to come.

Highlight of a wide-ranging and interesting meeting was a talk by Ann Widdicombe, MP, not on her political career but on her successful development as an author.
