Planning lawsbeing ignored

A four-strong team of Arun District Council officers tackled 128 cases of planning laws being ignored last year.

The incidents included development without the necessary planning permission, breaching conditions on planning approvals and unauthorised works to protected trees.

Most of the cases were solved through the planning application process and talking to the individuals concerned.

Some involved formal action such as serving enforcement notices.

The cases represented about one in four of the incidents considered by the team in its first 12 months of operation. The others were deemed to obey the planning rules.
