Please enjoy Hallowe'en and bonfire night responsibly!

HAVE FUN, but be safe is the message from Operation Sparkler, which was launched this week.

The Arun Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership, CDRP, will be out and about across the bonfire and Hallowe'en period, encouraging people to enjoy events responsibility.

Sgt Peter Allan, of Littlehampton police, said: "While trick or treating is fun for many, lots of people, including the elderly or vulnerable, may feel threatened by it, so if you are asked to leave, just leave."

Littlehampton police, Arun District Council and West Sussex Fire and Rescue are all involved in the campaign, which will also attempt to reinforce firework safety tips, and distribute leaflets and posters, reminding people of their responsibilities. 'No trick or treating' posters will also be handed out to vulnerable groups.

Roger Elkins, district councillor and member of the CDRP, said: "Hallowe'en and Bonfire Night are great events and we want people to enjoy themselves when celebrating them.

"All we're asking is that people respect others, especially vulnerable and elderly people, who may be intimidated or scared by some

actions."

Members of the CDRP will also visit youth clubs, schools and communities to offer safety advice, and seek to eradicate the anti-social use of fireworks.
