'Police locked up rape victim, aged 13'

A 13-year-old girl described in court as "scared and vulnerable" was handcuffed, held at a police station, then put in a cell overnight after she was found by police.

Magistrates heard she had run away from home after reporting being raped by two men she met through the internet.

A scuffle with a Worthing policewoman as she tried to escape led to her being arrested and charged with assault.

This week, 14 months on, the Crown Prosecution Service announced they were dropping the charges.
