Police name Fishbourne driver killed in Funtington

A DRIVER who died in a crash yesterday has been named by police.

Paulo Pinto, 42, of Common Lane, Fishbourne, was involved in a collision at Funtington just after midnight on Monday morning (July 6).

Mr Pinto died at the scene of the crash at Common Road, when his red Seat Leon was involved in an accident with a blue Peugeot 406.

Sussex Police said emergency services were called to the area at 12.02am.

Mr Pinto’s Seat was travelling east when it collided with the Peugeot travelling in the opposite direction.

Police said the 67-year-old driver of the Peugeot was from Chichester. He was taken to Southampton General Hospital after the crash with what were described as ‘multiple serious injuries’.

“He remains in a serious, but stable condition on Tuesday morning,” said a police spokesman

The road was blocked by the collision and was closed until just after 5.30am to allow rescue and recovery work to take place and for engine fluids to be cleaned from the road surface.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have seen either vehicle in the area in the time leading up to it was asked to email
