Project aims tocreate new jobs

Recruitment days and roadshows have proved successful in the past in recruiting staff for local businesses including Jempsons, Pontins and Family Mosaic.

These employers were joined by Chapmans of Rye, Bluebird Care Agency, Rye Firefighters and EF language schools, providing a wide and varied range of job opportunities for those who attended.

Tina Hall, from the project, said: “Recruitment events have been very well attended with a lot of interest expressed.

“The Rural Employability Project provides a Work Club service from Tilling Green Community Centre, in Rye, with drop in sessions running three days a week, Tuesday 1.30 – 3pm, Wednesday’s and Fridays 10am – 12, with staff and volunteers on hand to assist with job search and IT support.

“Further support is provided in sessions by JCP rural advisors and HARC benefits advisors. We also provide adult skills checks and adult literacy support to anyone who feels they can benefit from this service.

“In addition to work club sessions, working in partnership with other organisations Sussex Coast College Hastings, Rother Voluntary Action, Rye Children’s Centre, Future Youth Training, the project provides local people the opportunity to access personal and career development training courses.“

There are a number of useful courses taking place over the summer.

A course entitled ‘Is Microsoft Excel a mystery to you?’ starts on June 16. This is followed by a course entitled ‘Employability’ - starting on July 1 while there is a course called ‘Basic IT’ starting on July 15.

The Rural Employability Project is funded by the Department for Work and Pensions flexible support fund, and provides support for local people to improve their employment prospects.
