Protest march on Sunday against huge development for Burgess Hill

A PROTEST march against plans to build 1500 houses west of Burgess Hill, and north of Hurstpierpoint takes place on Sunday ( March 16) at 3pm from Marchants Road, Hurstpierpoint.

The march has been organised by Hurstpierpoint Parish Council and is timed just four days before the deadline for written representations to be received by Mid Sussex District Council on the scheme.

It is supported by Nick Herbert, MP for Arundel and South Downs, and people from Burgess Hill, Hurstpierpoint, Sayers Common, Albourne and outlying villages are urged to turn out and also send written representations.

Nick Herbert said:"We need more affordable homes so that young people can get their foot on the property ladder, but building on a green field site and a flood plain cannot be a sustainable way to provide housing.

"Local infrastructure is already under great pressure. Quite apart from the loss of countryside, if we're not careful the character of Hurstpierpoint will be changed irrevocably by development which will eventually see continuous suburban strip between the village and Burgess Hill."
