The track was recorded last week in the Carlisle pub where the band rehearse every week. It is being launched online in time for Jack in the Green.

All proceeds will go to the RNLI (the Royal National Lifeboat Institution). The track can be downloaded at www.musicglue.com/sambalanco and costs £1.49.

“The idea came about through a desire to do something different for this year’s Jack in the Green,” said Pete Haddon, one of the longest-serving members. “We put together a new tune and thought, why don’t we record it? We could raise some money for the lifeboats.”

The band recruited local producer John Nicholls to make the recording. He moved to Hastings five years ago drawn by the vibrant local music scene and is bass player in Cocktail Safari. He set up more than 20 microphones to capture the band’s unique sound, described by one band member as “Brazilian samba with a Hastings twist.”

Sambalanco was founded in 1996 as a community band and first played in Jack in the Green in 2000. They regularly play in bonfire parades throughout East Sussex every autumn. This weekend they will be playing at various spots in the Old Town on Saturday afternoon, at the Drum Off at Butler’s Gap in George Street at 4.30pm on Sunday and the Jack In The Green parade on Monday.
