STOOLBALL: Staplecross Mixed team were the visitors last Tuesday[30th] at The Clappers where our inexperienced team put up a good performance in an exciting and friendly match. The visitors batted first with Carolyn[67n.o.] and Darren[32] putting on 71 before Darren was caught by Phil Green from Richard Ahsam’[1-16] bowling. Ben[35] joined Carolyn and put on 75 before Ben was bowled by Clare Baker[2-1-39] which bought skipper Alan[29n.o.] to the crease as they finished their 12 overs on 184-2. This would be a struggle for us with the team that included some new players that had not played in the mixed team but an excellent 66 from Shaun Green put on 49 for the first wicket with young Charlie Apps[15] and when Clare[6] was run out we were on 63-2. Debutant Louisa Taylor[1] was bowled which bought in another debutant Jacquelyn Kuhler to the crease and she carried her bat to the end scoring 10n.o. Shaun was caught as was Phil[28] and then skipper Ian Kitson[12] was bowled with the score on 148-6. Graham Clark[0] was caught first ball but Richard[10n.o.] saw the match out with Jacquelyn as we finished 20 runs short on 164-7. Our Mixed team played at Pett last Thursday[2nd] with both teams using a few youngsters in the side. The hosts were put into bat and an opening partnership of 50 between Nathan[36] and Erin[13] was broken when Josh Lewis caught Nathan from Richard Apps’[1-11] bowling and when young Charlie Apps[2-2-22] had Erin caught by Richard the hosts were on 65-2. Hans[9] was bowled by Di Kitson[2-1-13] and then Nikki[8] was bowled by Keith Apps[1-12] but Olly[28] and Sophie[16] steadied the innings before Sophie was Richard’ second catch of the day from Graham Clark’[1-19] bowling. Anya[6] was Charlie’s second wicket aided by a catch from Richard and in the last over Olly was bowled by JJ Boast[1-10] while Cole[3n.o.] and Barry[6n.o.] saw the 12 overs out on 143-6. Richard[16] and Charlie[9] hit 24 off the first over before a mix up saw Richard run out which bought Josh[29] to the crease but he was caught with the score on 66-2. We lost Charlie, JJ[13], Clare Baker[3] and Keith[5] in the next eight balls with the score on 99-6 before Ian Kitson[35] and Di[11n.o.] gave us victory and Graham[6], Jackie Kuhler[9n.o.] and Lou Taylor[2n.o.] took our final score to 170-8 and a 27 run win. Our great British summer of rain, lightning and thunder put paid to Icklesham Ladies Tournament last Sunday. This Sunday[12th] is Civil Service’ Mixed Tournament at The Polegrove[10.30a.m.] while our Mixed team are away to Scorpions at Claverham on Tuesday[14th] and the Ladies are away to Brightling on Thursday[16th] with both matches staring at 7p.m.
