Valentines Day: tomorrow is for lovers, old and young, new and long, have you organised some thing special for that special person. Don’t forget to keep it in the village. We have pubs, florists for flowers or gifts, beauty treatments available from Touch of Lavender, gifts from Mustard or Boots, cards from the Post Office, One Stop can help out with booze and chocs, farm shops for those that want to cook at home and the Club have a band for the evening. From 8pm you can hear The Blockx playing, with great priced drinks. No need to go to town, support local.

St. Mary’s: Sunday 15th February is the second Sunday before Lent and the first service is at 9am with Holy Communion in the Mission Room, and at 11am Choral Matins at Salehurst.

Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday is next week. There will be 2 services on Ash Wednesday with Eucharis at 10am in the Mission Room and Eucharist at 7.30pm at St Mary’s.

It is amazing to think that Lent is just around the corner, so maybe is now time to start thinking, maybe not so much of giving up something but maybe taking up something new.

There are lots of organisations in the village that could do with some help. Age Concern, Helping hands, the Youth organisations, all need extra helpers at the moment. Both of our schools, Primary School and Community College need new Governors. Could you do with a challenge and be of help to any of these. If so why not enquire and see what help you can be to your village.

Don’t forget that Shrove Tuesday is also Pancake Day.

Robertsbridge United Football Club: is running a Quiz Night at Robertsbridge Club on Saturday 21st February.

Indoor Boot sale: on Saturday 28th February at Robertsbridge Hall between 10am 12pm. Lots of bargains to be had with refreshments available all morning. Tables must be booked in advance on 880457.

Age Concern: since last year Helping Hands have been invaluable to Age Concern with 4 volunteers providing a shopping service for members, and recently more helpers are providing setting up time to do the tables and chairs. Another volunteer has provided time during the session. This help is so gratefully received from those people that have found time in their busy lives to help out in ways that works for us all.

New members are very welcome, if you would benefit from spending a Monday out with friends, or you know someone that would like to join please call on 880511 or 880254 or just pop in. A hot lunch by Apetito is available, plus plenty of tea and biscuits, exercises, a sales stall and a game of cards or scrabble or what ever you fancy. A free cuppa awaits your visit.

Parenting Course: if you have pre-school children and babies and feel you could do with a little support from a friendly group this may be the course for you. During the sessions you can pick up and learn techniques and methods to help you feel more confident with your child’s eating, sleeping, weaning and behaviour patterns. Meetings are on a Wednesday between 9.30am – 11am at the meeting room in Robertsbridge Club. Refreshments are available.

Robertsbridge Summer Event: - this year will be on Sunday 21st June. It seems a long time away but will soon go and these types of events take a while to organise. If you have any ideas or would like to get involved this year there is a meeting at Robertsbridge Club on Thursday 19th February at 7.30pm. DARTS: We played at Mountfield Club against The Millers last week in the League Knockout Cup. Once again our dart players failed to win with only Michael Stone, Keith Stone and Stuart Miller the victors in a 4-3 defeat however the pushpenny team won 3-0 with wins for Ted Goldfinch/Alan Apps, Keith Stone/David Goodsell and Michael Stone/Dave Fortsch with Dave and Michael scoring a ‘gopldwatch’ each. Tonight we are at home to the Old King John 8p.m.

LADIES DARTS: Our up and down season continued with a 7-4 defeat at bottom placed The Bear I. Steph Goldsmith was our only singles winner and when Jackie Danaher/Eileen Morgan won their doubles we had already lost the match but there was victory for Dawn Mitchell/Carol Apps/Steph and Jackie/Steph/Eileen in the trebles to restore some pride. There were high scores for Dawn[115,79,77], Carol[96,72], Jackie[79,73,72], Eileen[2 x 75] and Steph[72]. Next Monday[16th] we are at home to The White Hart 8p.m.
