A 27-year-old Royal Navy recruit from Bognor Regis is one step closer to a life at sea after completing his basic training at HMS Raleigh in Cornwall.

Trainee Logistician Luke Pierce joined the Royal Navy in July.

He has just completed nine weeks of intensive training to turn him from a civilian into a sailor.

The course teaches recruits the basic skills they will rely upon throughout their time in the Royal Navy and includes a series of physical and mental challenges to develop team working skills.

At the end of the course the successful recruits march out before their families and friends during their passing-out-parade.

The former pupil of Felpham Community College previously worked as a retail assistant.

He said: "I joined the Royal Navy for a new challenge and chapter in my life.

"The training was great and has changed me as a person.

"It feels like a great achievement to complete the course and well worth it.

"I hope to achieve a lot in my new career, but am happy to see where life takes me.

"It'll be great to do some good in the world."
