SEDLESCOMBE FAYRE 2015: The date has arrived at last - Now all we need is good weather and you. After months o planning, Sedlescombe Fayre will return to the Sports field this Saturday July 18 2015. Open from 2 ‘til approx 5pm- we say approx as we do not really know what will happen once the goose appears! Free entry and free parking but donations to Sedlescombe Youth club who will be directing would be most appreciated in their buckets. Come and support the local people and groups taking part. Many of the old favourites coconut shy, crockery smashing, beat the goalie, beer tent, ice cream, pop corn, human fruit machine, plus much more and some new attractions like “guess the weight of the dog “ run by the Royal British Legion! One of the main attractions will be one of the village geese which will have a starring role in “Guess where the Goose will poop!” There will also be an excellent Art exhibition featuring local artists and a top prize Grand Draw.

FAYRE REFRESHMENTS: After the devastating news of the fire at the hospice over last weekend, please try and show your support for them as refreshments will be served from the sports pavilion throughout the afternoon, all provided by the dedicated staff and volunteers from St Michaels Hospice raising funds directly for this local charity.

SEDLESCOMBE AND DISTRICT GARDENING SOCIETY

The Garden Society hopes to see you when you visit their marquee on Saturday , when it is holds its Summer Show in conjunction with the Village Summer Fayre this Saturday July 18 on the Village Sports field. As well as flower and vegetable classes there are classes for Floral art, photography, handicraft and a domestic home cooking section as well as special classes for children. The show will be open to the public from 2.00pm.

COFFEE MORNING: There will be a coffee morning on Saturday July 25 at “Tamar”, The Street, Sedlescombe, in aid of St Michael’s Hospice. It is from 10am to 12 noon. There will be a cake stall, and tombola as well as the usual tea, coffee and biscuits. If anyone wishes to donate cakes or tombola prizes before the day, please ring Hilary on 01424 870397. There may be an answerphone , if so please leave a message.

CHAPEL HILL CHURCH: Chapel Hill Church in Sedlescombe will be hosting an Open Day on Saturday, July 25 from 11 am to 4 pm. There will be an interesting display of the history of the church featuring photos and information of its 136 years in the village. Refreshments will be available and all are welcome to visit and learn more about the heritage of this building and its users. Services at Chapel Hill Church are held every Sunday at 10.30am with visiting clergy taking the services.

SERVICES AND CHURCH FLOWER FESTIVAL: St John the Baptist church, Church Hill will be back in action for services from this Sunday July 19 at 10.30am . On Saturday August 8 from 10am to 5pm and Sunday August 9 from 12noon to 5pm there will be a flower festival to celebrate the reopening of the church after the refurbishment of the floor and heating system. The theme is “Hats”, of all sorts so there will be plenty of scope for the imagination of the talented team of ladies and gentlemen flower arrangers. Light refreshments will be available during both days

CHURCH SUMMER FAIR: St John the Baptist church will be holding this on Saturday August 15 in the church and churchyard from 12noon to 3pm . More news to follow in the next week or two.

ST MICHAELS HOSPICE OPEN GARDEN SCHEME

Only a couple more gardens to go for this summer season and this week it is quite local for us – Northiam. Glebe House, Hastings Road, TN31 6NH will be open on Tuesday July 21, from 10.30am until 4pm in support of this local charity. An expertly designed garden with plenty of interest, shape and colour for you to enjoy Entry is just £4. Refreshments will be available all day at this venue. Well worth a visit with family or friends.

VINTAGE FAIR AT THE VILLAGE HALL: Tollie’s Vintage Happenings, Sunday September 6 at Sedlescombe Village Hall. 10:30am - 4pm. A fun packed event with vintage stalls and quality crafts and lots of unique goodies for sale. Rose and Olive Vintage Tea Events will be providing delicious teas and cakes. The Charleston Jive Squad will be performing throughout the day with the opportunity to join in and learn to ‘swing and jive’. There will even be a display of vintage cars to admire too. Please feel free to dress in your vintage apparel if the mood takes you or just come along for tea, cake and a browse. Entry is free with donations to Chestnut Tree.
