The all-weather lifeboat was called to help the Spindrift II, a 10.5 metre yacht Spindrift II with two crew members, at around 2.30pm.
The skipper of the yacht had reported their engine had overheated in a stretch of sea around 5 miles south of Chichester harbour and they were struggling to make headway with the light winds.

The lifeboat located the Spindrift II at 3.06pm and towed the yacht to Gosport marina just inside the entrance to Portsmouth harbour. Once inside the harbour with only a short distance to go the yacht was released from the tow and able to berth alongside using their now cooled engine.
