Southern trains to introduce smoking ban

Train operator Southern says it will be introducing a total smoking ban at all of its premises on July 1.

This ban coincides with the introduction of legislation which prohibits smoking in enclosed public spaces.

Southern's ban will cover all of its premises and will include waiting rooms and shelters, toilets, platforms, footbridges, underpasses and concourse areas.

Station users will be expected to comply with the law, and will be asked to respect the ban in areas that are not covered by the new legislation.

Posters will be displayed and leaflets giving information on how to seek help to give up smoking will be available at all Southern staffed stations from 1 April
