PUBLIC INFORMATION NOTICE: No-one likes to be reminded of grim or dismal news, but the adage “fore-warned is fore-armed”,in this case is very true. Several weeks ago, Ewhurst Parish Council, in conjunction with the Rother Responders group, installed a Public Access Defibrillator (PAD) in each of the three villages that make up this parish community. These ‘de-fibs’ as they are commonly called are situated on the outside wall of the pubs in each village; - The White Hart Inn, Cripps Corner,~ The Cross Inn, Staplecross~ and the White Dog Inn, Ewhurst Green. These units are there to be used when an emergency arises and you suspect someone may be experiencing a cardiac arrest. In the U.K. alone, approximately 30,000 people suffer from one of these attacks every year and the chance of survival decreases by around 14% per minute, without defibrillation following a Cardiac Arrest. As such, it is vital that emergency medical treatment begins as soon as possible. If defibrillation is delivered promptly, survival rates as high as 75% can be achieved. These PADs are simple and easy to use, with clear verbal instructions given throughout the whole procedure. If you believe someone maybe having a heart attack, ring 999 - for an ambulance, get the de-fib and start to use it. Give someone a fighting chance of survival by making use of this vital piece of equipment. Please don’t be afraid to use this equipment, instructions are there to help you every step of the way and by using this ‘de-fib’ you could provide some-one with the best possible chance of continuing to enjoy their life - by helping them to live it!Every little helps, - as another saying also goes, and that’s just what this unit is all about. STAPLECROSS PRIMARY SCHOOL FETE: Just in case you’ve not heard - or seen the superb posters adorning our village, ~ this much loved little village school is holding their annual school fete TODAY, that’s FRIDAY JULY 10th from 3.30pm onwards. It will be held on the school field and will be another magnificent fund-raising event for the school coffers. They’ll be lots of fun and exciting things to do including ‘Beat the Goalie’;- Hook-a-Duck’;- ‘Apple Bobbing’; and ‘Face & Nail painting’. Add to that a plant stall - a cake stall- a superb refreshment tent and a great Bar-B-Q, and loads more ‘stuff’ - Plus a Bouncy Castle and a superb raffle draw with cash prize, you have the recipe for a brilliant afternoon of fun and games and happy children, -not forgetting happy ‘grown-up’s ! This event is always popular and not just with adults, as the ‘wee ones’ have such a wonderful time, just being children!. Entrance is free, and everyone is welcome, so please do come along and join in the fun.

STAPLECROSS BOWLS CLUB: More exciting matches to look forward to this week as the team progress through their busy calendar and the first match will take place on Saturday July 11th with a home match against Ninfield beginning at 2.30pm. The following day Sunday July 12th. sees no let up as the team have an away game at Tenterden, to contend with, so certainly no time to put their feet up, and the week is rounded off nicely with another match on Wednesday July 15th on their home green at their clubhouse premises at Northiam Road, Staplecross. Their opponent this time will be Northiam and the game will commence at 6.00pm. As always if you can pop along and support our team, please do so. You’ll be made very welcome. ROTHER RAMBLERS: Just one walk, this week and this one is very close to home being a 5 mile evening stroll from Bodiam. Planned for Tuesday July 14th all those interested in taking part in this delightful meander around this beautiful area of ours should meet at 6.00pm.in the car park, in the grounds of Bodiam Castle, (or the pub car park) OS EXP.136. TQ783254. (SatNav TN32 5UB) This event is one of the evening walks arranged by Rother Ramblers Summer programme and a visit to the pub is suggested upon return to round off the evening. Sadly car parking charges will apply in the castle grounds,-National Trust members are exempt. STAPLECROSS LUNCHEON CLUB: Arriving at the Village Hall, Northiam Road, Staplecross at 12.30pm on Wednesday July 15th will be the members of this small but lively group of like-minded friends who come together once a month to enjoy each others’ company and to share and enjoy a delicious meal. On the menu this month is a very firm favourite of almost everyone and that is sausages and mash, - add savoury onion gravy and garden peas, - followed by apricot flan and cream , and that’s manna from heaven for many. All of this, plus tea or coffee will be available for the miserly charge of £6:00 per person. If you fancy joining these delightful people then the ‘club rules’ are simple and few. - all you have to be is over a certain age ( that’s 50 years young ) to attend and promise, - wherever possible - to come along each month and enjoy the fruits of some-one else’s labour. By doing this you will help alleviate unnecessary food waste, as well as reduce the cost in time, money and effort. You don’t have to even live within our parish as many members travel several miles just to taste and enjoy these delectable menus. There is no entrance fee and no washing up, - another thing to be happy about!. MOBILE LIBRARY SERVICE: Once again, the little Mobile Library service will be visiting our community and this time it’s the turn of Ewhurst to enjoy all that’s on offer within the portals of this vehicle. Arriving on Thursday July 16th. the van will arrive at 10.40am -lingering for a while (30 minutes) before departing at 11.10am for pastures new. Please make full use of this amazing service, whilst we are still privileged to do so. You’ll be amazed at just what is available.

STAPLECROSS STOOLBALL CLUB: Back into sports mode- with our own local stoolball club, which has only one game to play this week and that will be an away match against Pett, on Thursday July 16th, starting at 7.00pm. This is a fascinating sport and an ideal one if you like your action fast and furious, played in the great outdoors. New members are always welcomed, whether you wish to actually play the game or play a softer role off the field !. EWHURST GREEN: There are lots of things that have been happening within Ewhurst at the moment, not least the installation of the fabulous new village sign. This work of art was taken from a design from a well known and much in demand, local artist, Glenys Griffiths, and completed and erected by the talented Black Forge Art team, whose many amazing pieces of traditional iron forge work are legendary in these parts and beyond. This long awaited traditional sign was unveiled amidst many noisy cheers from all who attended the little inauguration ceremony on the village green early evening on Tuesday last -June 30th. An unexpected flypast by a rare W.W.2 Spitfire - which incidentally is also depicted on the sign in recognition of the vital ‘practise’ work undertaken by many young pilots, up & down the valley, prior to the Battle of Britain and to mark that pilots still continue to use this valley as a training & flying route today. This is a village sign to be proud of and will be looked upon with pride for decades and by generations to come. Much hard work has also been seen and done by many of the residents of Ewhurst Green. Coming together to work together, is a great achievement, for a small village, as much hard work has been undertaken over the past months in preparation for the much coveted title for the “Village In Bloom” competition and which as you know, the ‘Day of Judgement’, in this case, occurred earlier this week, on Wednesday July 8th. Sincere and grateful thanks are sent to all who took part in this prestigious competition, it all looks lovely and natural -a typical beautiful English village to be proud of, - so fingers & toes crossed for the result that everyone is hoping for and so richly deserve. An announcement will be made of the result in due course

ADVANCE NOTICE: DATE FOR YOUR DIARY: Just to keep you informed of another happening within Ewhurst Green on Saturday July 25th.and this is the biennial Ewhurst Green Village Barbecue. Usually held on the village green, this year, it’ll take place at the Arthur Herdman Pavilion & Playing Field. further up the road (TN32 5TB). This is an event for the whole family to take part in and enjoy, with live music from “Mocking Jay”. Lots of lovely food from an extensive menu, including hog roast, burgers, sausages & salads, - a licensed bar, which is sure to please everyone and a huge raffle. This is a charity event with aid going to Ewhurst PCC and other local worthwhile causes. CHURCH SERVICES: Church services for the parish of Ewhurst will commence at St. James the Great, Ewhurst Green on Sunday July 12th. Trinity 6. at 9.30am. This service will include Holy Communion (BCP) There will be NO SERVICE held today at St. Giles church, Bodiam, but a Morning Praise service at St. Mark’s church, Northiam Road, Staplecross, will follow directly after at 11.15am. Both services will be conducted by Reverend Gordon Winchester and if there are any church matters in which he can be of assistance, then please don’t hesitate to contact him.
