Strangers rescue girl swimmer

"IF no-one had come to her aid, she might not be here now. That scares me."

Bexhill mother Nicola Oliver wants to thank the strangers who saved her 11-year old daughter's life.

Jodie, of Singleton Walk, had been swimming at Glyne Gap with her friend Gemma Selmes - also 11 - when they both found themselves struggling in dangerous water.

"It was frightening" said Jodie.

"The waves kept dragging us under."

Nicola told the Observer how the girls could not get a footing or swim to safety:

"The tide carried them out. Then two 13-year-old boys and a girl jumped in and managed to drag them onto the rocks.

"The girls came off the beach and went into Tesco to use the telephone, but the staff there told them to go to the Bexhill Leisure Pool to see the first aiders.

"The first aiders cleaned Jodie's wounds for her and looked after her until I got there.

"I want to say a big thank you to all of them. Jodie is like a big walking graze now - all her arms, stomach and legs were cut.

I would also like to warn people of the dangers of the sea ... it is so unpredictable, you don't know what it is going to do." H37020
