Successful 10th anniversary for Felpham art trail

Husband and wife Carol and Albert Naylor were among the artists with their work on show in Felpham at the beginning of the month.

The Chichester couple maintained their loyal presence as the village art trail reached its tenth anniversary.

Albert's abstract landscape oil paintings adorned the garden of St Catherine's in Canning Road, while embroiderer Carol's textiles were on show in the front room.

They have taken part in nine of the occasions which see houses turned into art galleries to the delight of hundreds of visitors.

Albert had five works on show in this year's trail. One had only been finished a few days previously and another completed a month earlier.

He said: 'There is a lot more intimacy and friendliness about displaying your work here rather than in a gallery.

'You are with friends here and you can chat and support each other and just enjoy the occasion which, when the sun shines, is as good as it gets.

'I enjoy talking to people who are curious about my work. A lot of people find abstract paintings difficult and I try to explain it in a way which will give them inroads into understanding it.

'I don't expect to sell many paintings here. The vast majority of people come to look and not to buy. But it provides me with the chance to show my work and I never know if someone will want to buy a painting.'

Carol stated: 'It's nice to come and talk to local people. People are always surprised when they see my work.

'They want to know how I do it. They are surprised at the amount of work involved and the technique I use.'
