Supermarket giant to appeal against planning refusal

ALDI is appealing against the refusal of its bid to build a superstore in Hailsham.

In November the supermarket chain was refused permission to build a store at the historic cattle market site in Market Street.

The appeal process with the Government planning inspectorate is expected to take three to six months.

Hailsham Cattle Market could be moved to land near the A22 Diplocks roundabout.

The Hailsham Market Action Group believes the 10 acre site might be the best option.

A two-year option to buy the land at an agreed fixed price was taken out by the group.

It is has also been seeking planning permission.
