Cllr Clark hand delivered 1,380 surveys to residents in the Pebsham area, with just under half being returned.

He will use the results to lobby the appropriate council departments and organisations.

Almost 70 per cent of those questioned would like to see a direct bus service to the Conquest Hospital.

34 per cent of people knew 10 per cent of their council tax bill goes to Rother District Council, but a quarter of those surveyed believed the council used 50 per cent of the bill.

Policing had improved in Pebsham over the last six months according to 22 per cent of people - a significant improvement on previous surveys.

But a quarter still thought policing had not got any better.

Cllr Clark said: "It is pleasing to see the amount of people who took the time to respond.

"I can now use this information and present it to the right people to get things done on the things people are concerned about.

"The bus to the Conquest is actually a county issue. It is something Pebsham has needed for a long time and I will go back to them about it.

"The crime figures have also improved which is pleasing. I think in that case it is a question of people's perception. 49 per cent said they didn't know if things had improved - that doesn't mean they are lying, it means they genuinely don't know.

"The support for the countryside park (86 per cent) isn't a surprise. It has been urgently needed for a long time because Pebsham doesn't have any open spaces.

"With the council tax it is just simply a case of educating people. Some think it all goes to Rother, but they need to understand we have limited resources."
