Support for 1066 book awards

BEXHILL Rotary Club and Kiley's Carpets have shown their support for Bexhill High and other schools involved in The 1066 Schools Book Award 2010.

Both groups made 100 donations to the competition, which involves students from Bexhill High, St Richards, Claverham, William Parker, The Grove, Filsham Valley, and Helenswood.

The launch took place at Helenswood, where all the students met last year's winner, Kate O'Hearn, author of Shadow of the Dragon. She talked about her childhood favourites and what inspired her to become a writer.

Pupils then listened to sections from each of the books. From each school one student read a short passage from one book. For Bexhill High Jack Roadway read a passage from The Carbon Diaries.

The books this year are The Carbon Diaries, The Lost Riders and The Great Gatsby for the 9-11 category and The Bone Magician, The London Eye Mystery and How Kirsty Jenkins Stole The Elephant for the 7-8 category.
