Tanker spills 1,000 litres of fungicide in Yapton

FIREFIGHTERS were called to Yapton after a tanker, filled with approximately 1,000 litres of fungicide overturned, this morning (Wednesday, June 20).

The incident took place in Yapton Lane, shortly before 9am this morning.

Fire officials said that the tanker was being pulled down the road by a local farmer, using his tractor, when it overturned, spilling into the street.

A spokeswoman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue added that the fungicide – which is used to kill weeds – is “harmless” to humans.

The carrier was eventually righted by the farmer.

Firefighters from Arundel have since sanded the road.
