Teachers strike at Bexhill schools

THREE Bexhill schools will suffer today as a result of the teacher's strike.

Chantry Primary School, on Barrack Road, will be closed all day.

Children from eight classes at Little Common Primary School will not have to attend classes. The school is closed for the day for year five and six pupils and two first year classes.

Head teacher David Pratt said eight of his staff would be striking.

He added: "We have 16 NUT members, so you can see it has been a huge dilemma for them."

Secondary education has also been hit.

St Richard's Catholic College will be closed for year seven and eight students.

Principal Tony Campbell explained he wanted the school open to year nine, ten and eleven students as they have exams coming up in the next few weeks.

he National Union of Teacher's strike was called after members rejected a 2.45 per cent pay rise.
