Town Forum meeting at risk

SO few items have so far been placed on the agenda for the next meeting of Bexhill Town Forum that chairman Ken Hutchinson fears it may have to be cancelled.

Last year it was decided to increase the number of meetings from three a year to four.

But now the chairman has had to put out a letter to member organisations ahead of the March 20 meeting scheduled for All Saints' Church.

He says: "At the moment, I am somewhat concerned at the small number of items which have been brought forward to go on the agenda.

"It is unusual for this apparent lack of items/subjects for information, presentation or discussion.

"You will recall that following conversations between myself, as chairman of the Bexhill Town Forum, the forum's vice chairman and the council, it was accepted that there would be four rather than three meetings each year to ensure as wide an involvement of residents in the town as possible.

"It would be a disappointment if it became necessary to cancel the March meeting, but it would be wrong to hold a meeting for the sake of it."

The forum chairman is appealing for member organisations with items they would like placed on the agenda to make contact with Nikki Stubbs at the Town Hall by next Wednesday.

The chairman has told member organisations: "If, as a consequence, there is sufficient business for the meeting to go ahead, the agenda will be sent to you in the normal way.

"If it is deemed that there is insufficient business, I will write to notify you that the meeting has been cancelled."

Bexhill Town Forum was established 10 years ago as a means for local people to put forward their views. Meetings start at 6.30pm and are preceded by free refreshments. Time is allocated at the start of each meeting for members of the public to raise points of public interest and the agenda always includes an update on Rother District Council's work since the last meeting.
