Ladder on A23 causes three-vehicle collision

Police are appealing for help in tracing the driver of a van which lost a ladder on the A23 at Handcross Hill yesterday (Tuesday June 19) morning.

As a result of the ladder in the road a three vehicle collision took place at around 7.20am.

A white Citroen, a white Seat and a black Ford were all collision on the northbound carriageway.

The driver of the Ford, a 50-year-old woman from Portslade, and the driver of the Citroen, a 32-year-old man from Eastbourne, both received slight injuries as a result of the incident.

PC Liz Daddy of Sussex Police’s Road Policing Unit said: “We are keen to find out how the ladder ended up in the carriageway. It is thought the ladder came from a dark coloured van as it was driving north on the A23 at Handcross Hill at around 7.20am.

“We would like to hear from anyone who saw the ladder come from the van, or has information about the driver or number plate and anyone who witnessed the subsequent collision.”
