Travel agency cash raid - police seek witnesses

POLICE launched an appeal for witnesses after terrified staff at a Bexhill travel agency handed over cash to a robber.

The man walked into the Thomas Cook office in Western Road just before closing time on Tuesday and demanded money.

Police said no weapon was seen and the staff were not injured but they were shaken by the incident and handed over an undisclosed sum. The man ran off down Western Road.

A 22 year-old man from Hastings was arrested shortly after and was being interviewed by police.

DC Tod Stewart of Rother CID said: "Police are keen to hear from people who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area on Tuesday. The robbery happened in a busy area, at a time when many shops were closing and people were making their way home."

Anyone with information about the 5.15pm incident is asked to contact DC Stewart at Bexhill police station on 0845 6070999 quoting serial 1305 of November 4, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

"You do not have to give your name, but you may receive a reward."
