Parish Council: At its meeting last Wednesday evening in St Mary’s Community Hall, the Council discussed the proposed raising of the national speed limit for HGVs on single carriageway roads from 40mph to 50mph, deciding not to raise objections about this with the County Council (B2089 has in any case been scheduled as a county trunk route, so objections are unlikely to be successful). In view of the severe reduction of central government grants, the proposed reductions in public bus services was another change, councillors decided, which would have to be accepted. Similar reductions in the Rye Community Transport bus service, councillors had heard, would not be as great as reported in the recent Newsletter: RCT were to be asked for details of their more recent proposal. The Council had been officially informed that Float Lane is on the county work programme for the current financial year. Whether this is for full resurfacing or yet more partial patching had not been made clear. Clarification was to be sought from the County Council. As reported in the Newsletter, the Udimore Community Speed Watch scheme is to be set up as soon as the hand-held devices are available, and our co-ordinator has received the necessary further training. The next Parish Council meeting will be in the Hall on Wednesday November 19, starting at 6.30pm.
