UPDATE: Fire at Littlehampton home

MORE than a dozen firefighters from across the area battled to save a family home in Littlehampton from a blaze which, eye witnesses claim, “caught in minutes.”

Crews from Littlehampton, Worthing and East Preston were called to tackle the fire at a home in Parkside Avenue shortly before midday today (Friday, December 2).

Four appliances from Littlehampton and East Preston, as well as a special aerial ladder platform from Worthing attended the blaze, which is believed to have started accidentally.

Off-duty firefighter and Littlehampton station commander Niall Cooper, who lives in the road and witnessed the blaze, said: “There wasn’t a great deal of smoke to begin with but it caught extremely quickly. It must have been a matter of minutes.

“It was quite a severe fire for about four or five minutes. There was lots of smoke coming from the roof area of the home.

“But fire crews attended very quickly. They did a very good job in combating the fire, which was in a particularly difficult area to reach.”

Firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus moved into the home to combat the flames, which took hold in the loft area of the house.

No one was injured during the blaze. Access into parts of the road remains restricted.
