UPDATE: Police seek Audi driver after A27 Chichester crash

DETAILS of a serious accident on the A27 yesterday evening (July 9) have been revealed by police.

A Citroen Saxo went up on the bank before rolling over three times as it was travelling between Havant and Chichester.

“It came to rest in the nearside lane and a BMW 520D, driven by a 43-year-old man from Small Dole, near Henfield, braked to avoid it,” said a spokesman.

“A Citroen C4 Cactus, driven by a 28-year-old man from Worthing, then collided with the BMW.”

Police said it was ‘very fortunate’ that no one sustained serious injuries, including the 24-year-old old Saxo driver, from Farnborough, Hampshire, in the 5pm crash.

The only injury was a cut to the forehead sustained by the BMW driver, who was treated at St Richard’s Hospital, in Chichester.

Given the circumstances it was very fortunate that there was only one slight injury,” said Sergeant Alan Spicer, of the Sussex roads policing unit.

“One lane of the dual carriageway was closed for around three hours and I’d like to thank motorists caught up in the congestion for their patience.”

Police are asking for an Audi driver, who was in front of the Citroen Saxo, to come forward to assist the enquiry.

Sgt Spicer added: “I’d appeal to the driver of the white Audi to come forward as he or she may be able to help us in determining exactly what happened.”

That driver, or anyone with information about the incident, was asked to email [email protected] or phone 101, quoting serial 1145 of July 9.
