VIDEO: Officers at the scene of fatal collision involving police car

Officers and forensics have sealed off an area of Kemptown after a fatal incident involving a police car this morning (August 25).

A pedestrian died following the incident at 12.50am on Devonshire Place, police said.

The air ambulance was called to the scene at 12.54am, but was stood down as the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Devonshire Place and Edward Street have been closed by police while investigations take place.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Officers were responding to an emergency call when they collided with a man on Devonshire Place in Kemptown at 12.50am this morning (Friday August 25).

"The man had sadly died at the scene. The road is currently closed while investigations are carried out.

“As a police car is involved, the IPCC has been informed as is usual procedure.”

Anyone who saw what happened is asked to contact police online quoting Operation Hertford.
