Village rings the changes

THE prayers of Firle parishioners have been answered. Their much-loved church bells are ringing again.

And delighted children from Firle Primary School were on hand on Wednesday morning to see them arrive for re-hanging in the tower.

Firle originally had five ancient bells but over a period of time they deteriorated.

Two years ago there were only two still working.

The final straw came when it was discovered that the bell frame had deteriorated to the point where it was unsafe.

The five original bells were melted down at the famous Whitechapel Foundry in London and re-cast into four, to go with two donated ones.
