Visions for the Salts rec

THE future of Seaford's Salts recreation ground is looking positive after a meeting was held with all stakeholders on Tuesday.

About 10 groups regularly use the ground, including Seaford Rugby Football Club, Seaford Cricket Club, Seaford Lifeguards and youngsters from The Base youth club.

Both long term and short term goals were agreed including the possibility of a large, joint facility which might include a cafe and bar.

Speaking after the meeting, Lewes District Council's area partnership development worker, Jackie Blackwell, said: 'It went really well. More than 30 people '“ virtually all the stakeholders of the Salts '“ were

there.

They were all able to share their visions.'

Jackie said some of the smaller scale ideas were about improving the interiors of some of the buildings and the possibility of car parking on the Salts.

The bigger ideas were the combined community facility and the extension of The Base.

She said: 'These are just ideas and could be five years down the line but a lot of people expressed an interest.

'This was positive because the combined facility was an idea I mooted quite a long time ago.'

The potential new skatepark earmarked for the Salts (as reported in last week's Express) was also discussed as well as ideas for its location.

A consultation meeting is due to be held to give members of the public and other users an opportunity to share their visions for the future of the ground.

A similar meeting is also due to be held on October 16 to discuss the future of Crouch Gardens.
