Visitors flock as Middleton opens up gardens
The 26 homeowners opened their gardens to visitors last Saturday, June 14, for the village's first occasion of its kind for three years. They were delighted to have brought in profits of more than 2,000 for the first time. This will be shared between St Richard's Hospital cancer day care unit and St Wilfrid's Hospice.
Some 340 tickets were sold to visitors. Most were collected from Peters Newsagents in the village.

One of the organisers, Gill Pacey, said: "The weather was just about perfect for wandering around and taking in the sights and scents of a wide variety of different gardens.
"They ranged from those constantly having to cope with salt spray because they front the sea to the established formal courtyard and, naturally, the cottage garden."
Refreshments and comfort stops were available at several points along the gardens' route. Cakes, biscuits, teas, coffee and soft drinks were provided by residents. Plants were grown for sale to add to the interest for visitors, ceramics and watercolour paintings could be bought, a raffle for a magnificent iced fruit cake was won by a woman from Findon and a cake stall with home-made goodies also raised funds.
