Whatlington

Church News: Sunday 8th February, being the second Sunday of the month sees the All Age Service held at Whatlington at 10.30am, taken as usual by Mrs. Jacqueline Kemp. The service will be followed by light refreshments served in the church and a warm welcome is extended to all.

Parking, as usual will be available at the nearby village hall. Please contact Jeffrey on 01424-772535 for any further details.

Village Hall: The Hall Committee met again on January 29th and agreed to go ahead with two major areas of repair. Firstly, the upgrading of the electrical installations, including a new circuit board, several much-needed extra power points, and a series of LED downlights to replace the existing strip lighting. Secondly, the flat roof will be repaired and re-covered as soon as the weather permits the work to begin. Redecoration of the Hall’s interior will follow and new curtains are also on the list. This work will, as far as possible, be fitted around any existing bookings to enable continued use of the Hall.

The Committee has been in office for a year now and the Treasurer, Mrs Sally Henderson, was able to report a very satisfactory rise in income from bookings over the past twelve months. The Bookings Secretary told the meeting that she had already received several new bookings in January, some of which might well turn out to be regular clients.

Future fund raising events were also discussed and dates will soon be announced for these. In particular, a spring event is planned this year, possibly featuring a date that is particularly significant in Whatlington’s history. Charlotte Moore offered to do some research into this, so watch out for news of another entertaining occasion!
