White Ribbon Day ceremony planned on Green

The partnership will remember victims of domestic violence at a tree-planting ceremony on Sidley Green on Friday morning as part of White Ribbon Day.

The International Day remembers those who have been killed or seriously injured by domestic violence.

Friday's 11am ceremony on Sidley Green, Rother District Council will replace a tree which died some time ago.

Members of the Safer Rother Partnership's violent crime action group will attend and will also mark the day by launching a new poster and leaflet encouraging victims to report domestic violence and seek support.

Inspector Martin Mann, who chairs the action group, said: "Raising awareness of domestic violence and the support that is available for victims is vitally important. Last year there were 804 incidents (617 victims) of domestic violence in Rother.

"This is fewer than the previous year, but is obviously still far too many."

Safer Rother Partnership community safety coordinator Carol Studley said: "The partnership works to reduce domestic and other violence across Rother.

"Members of the Partnership will be wearing white ribbons, which symbolise a personal pledge never to commit, condone or remain silent about domestic violence against anyone."
