Don’t forget Organ Music for a Royal Occasion tomorrow (Saturday) at 4 pm in St Thomas’s Church. This is when organist Roger Marvin will be playing an informal concert of music to celebrate the Queen’s Official Birthday. A retiring collection will be taken and refreshments are available.

WAS (Winchelsea Archaeological Society) is launching a project to catalogue medieval graffiti in the town and requests the assistance of volunteers. A training day for the volunteers will be in St Thomas’s Church tomorrow at 10 am. Matt Champion of Norfolk Medieval Graffiti Survey, who recently helped to record the graffiti in Blackfriars Barn, will be running the training. If you are interested in volunteering the contact number is 01797 224446 to book a place.

The Patient’s Participation Group are holding a Tea Party in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care at Ferry Road Health Centre, Rye. All are invited to come along to the Centre on Monday 11th June starting at 2 to 4 pm.

Icklesham Parish Council is holding its next council meeting at the New Hall on Monday 11th June at 7.15 pm. Local residents are welcome to attend the event.

St Thomas’s Primary School will be having a Eucharist ceremony in the Church on Wednesday 13th June at 9 am. The children enjoy the opportunity of being in the church and families and friends are invited to join them at the service.

The Sheer Variety from Bordeaux is the title of the next meeting with the Second Wednesday Society on Wednesday 13th June at 12 noon in the New Hall. Guy Boursot will be giving the talk plus wine tasting which will be followed by a summer luncheon. Tickets are £12 per person and are on sale at Winchelsea Post Office.

The fortnightly visit by the Mobile Library to Castle Street will take place this Wednesday 13th June at 1.40 to 2.10 pm.

Winchelsea Literary Society has arranged a talk by Monica Tracey for next Friday 15th June at 7 for 7.30 pm in the Court Hall. Monica is the author of the novels, ‘Unweaving the Thread’ and ‘Left of the Moon’.

The local National Trust Centre invites all to Blackfriars Barn for a Cellar Tour and Wine Tasting event. This will be on Friday 15th June at 7 pm and the cost is £5 per person (call 01580 831331 to book your place).

Winchelsea Garden Society is holding a Coffee Morning Rose and Sweet Pea Show at the Court Hall on Saturday 16th June at 10.30 am. Admission is free and this is a chance to do a Plant Swap. The idea is to bring along your own surplus plants and exchange them for items that others have brought in.

Last Saturday’s Church Market, during the Jubilee weekend, raised the useful sum for church funds of £307.40 and we do give God the praise. Also thank you to all who helped at the event.

If you bought a raffle ticket at last Saturday’s Diamond Jubilee Street Party please read on. There are four tickets outstanding for the four remaining prizes and the numbers are as follows: Green 165, Green 201 (each has the book number AX493749) Blue 368, Blue 372 (the book number for these is AX468922). The four prizes yet to be claimed are: a case containing 6 bottles of Champagne, a case of red and white wine, 1 beauty treatment in Rye and a trip to Bodiam Castle for 2 people. Committee Chair Person of the Jubilee Street Party Tina Alexander sends a big thank you to everyone who contributed in any way at the Party. Donations came to over £400 which will go towards the insurance, entertainment and also the Entertainments Workshop film project that involves young people, some of whom were filming during the party. Mrs Gore, Deputy Lieutenant of East Sussex who was present for the toast expressed much admiration for the project and noted that it would also be an area of interest to Admiral Lord Boyce of the Cinque Ports. Despite the rain coming down in buckets everybody sat through it mainly sheltering under gazebos and umbrellas. John and Jacqueline the singing duo gave an exciting performance on the stage and the juggler-magician who wandered between the tables kept the many children and adults well-amused. There was always a dry spot in the New Inn for those really soaked and the restaurant that evening was packed. Tina is now planning to hold a street market in August but more on this later.
