In the last millennium, city newspapers - with content edited and printed by wealthy media-owners, whenever they wished, at whatever price they chose - was the only way a city could have a conversation with itself. The only way a city could do business with itself.

All that has changed - even though many of those in monolithic media do not seem to have woken up to the fact.

The internet gives us the tools to do better. Give the investment and support, journalists can serve citizens like never before, providing applications and services '“ not just here-today, gone-tomorrow products.

Small beginnings, however, mask huge ambitions. In the coming weeks, we will use the latest technologies finally to give our city the media platform it deserves.
