Youth bands to play in Park "Edgy Fest" event

THE weekend of may 10 and 11 will see a programme of music and celebration in the centre of Bexhill.

The main lawn of Egerton Park will be converted to an open-air auditorium for a wide range of performances that will have something to appeal to almost all ages.

The HOPE08 committee in Bexhill is organising a programme for the weekend which starts with a Saturday night "Edgy Fest" youth music extravaganza from 6pm to 9pm.

Youth bands from the Bexhill and area will have the chance to perform on a big stage.

The music line up is being arranged by Ian Barnett, supported by Live In The Valley (LITV), and by Rythmix, and is an opportunity for young people to show their music talent, and to make the event into a fantastic evening.

The event will be open to all, and will be free of charge. A refreshment marquee and burger bar will be provided.

On Sunday, May 11, there will be a celebration of the Christian festival of Pentecost, starting with the Beulah morning praise from 11am to noon, followed by a Picnic In The Park from 12.30 to 2.30 which is open for everyone to bring their own picnic and enjoy the music of the Battle Town Brass Band playing a wide range of traditional and contemporary music.

At 3pm all the churches in Bexhill will be combining for a United Pentecost Celebration organised by Churches Together In Bexhill with the massed voices singing famous songs of praise.

The finale of the weekend will start at 7pm to 9pm when the highly-regarded Life Gospel Choir will be presenting an evening of song and drama with a powerful message.

Cllr Michael Ensor, said this week: "None of these events will have a charged entrance, but the HOPE08 committee are looking for volunteer stewards throughout the weekend, and for sponsorship and donations to cover the costs.

"The use of the Egerton Park for this open air event has already been approved by Rother District Council and also by the Friends of Egerton Park, and subject to having good weather it promises to be a fabulous weekend."
