Members of K-pop band, BTS, have spoke of the moment they became the first all-Korean act to get to number one on the Billboard 100 singles chart with their new single "Dynamite".

The band, which is made up of 7 members, released their first fully English song on 21 August and within just a week it had garnered 33.9 million US streams and secured a place at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

The accompanying pastel-themed music video also achieved an incredible feat, gaining 101 million views on YouTube after only 24 hours online.

The hashtag #BTS1onHot100 and #BTS_Dynamite began trending within minutes of the song's release, with fans, known as the BTS Army, praising the band.

'Tears kept coming'

In response to the near instant success of the song, one member of the boy band, Suga, posted a string of crying emojis.

Another of the seven band members, Jimin,  said in a Twitter post "tears kept coming".

He explained that the success had rendered him speechless and thanked the band's loyal fans saying, "I'm out of my mind now but you guys made this [happen]."

What did the South Korea president say?

The South Korea president Moon Jae-in was one of many prominent figures to praise the band's success, describing the achievement as a "splendid feat", adding that the song will provide comfort to the nation as the pandemic continues.

President Moon said, "After having topped the Billboard 200 main album chart four times, they have now reached No 1 on both charts.

"The song Dynamite has been composed to give a message of comfort... it will bring consolation to Koreans suffering from the national crisis caused by Covid-19."

The group said they wanted the song to convey "positive vibes, energy, hope, love, purity, everything".
