BASKETBALL: Crawley Cagers enjoy incredible season

The club is based at Holy Trinity School in Gossops Green and remarkably went undefeated in the under-14s, under-16s and under-18s league and play-offs for the second straight season.

As well as all this success, Crawley were also runners-up in the U11s cup.

Cagers currently have a 44-game winning streak at the U16s age group over the last three seasons.

This adds to the incredible year that Crawley basketball has had.

This there were 26 junior national league players, six of whom helped Worthing Thunder U15 to their third straight National Final Fours appearance.

Raymond Jonas (Bewbush), Colin Luzinda (West Green), Haaris Sultan (Three Bridges) and Hosana Kitenge (Horley) led Worthing Thunder U14s to the club’s second ever National title, with a nailbiting 69-67 finals victory over London Greenhouse Pioneers.

This is only the second time a Sussex team has achieved this accolade in the last 25 years.

Haaris Sultan, Raymond Jonas and Colin Luzinda were also involved Holy Trinity School’s U15 National Schools win, along with the Cagers U14 League and play-off win and the Worthing Thunder U14 National Title.

The became the only three players in the entire country to win in all three categories in the same season.

There were also eight players that represented Sussex and 11 that are still being considered for the South East England Regional Squads.

Maka Chiware (Broadfield) became the club’s first ever U11 to make a Sussex or a South East England team and he is still an U10.

Selby Hind-Wills (Gossops Green) and Georges Tchuako (Ifield) were called up to the Worthing Thunder Division 1 Men’s team, while still being Juniors.

Georges (U15) suited up twice, and managed to get himself on the score sheet a couple of times.

Selby (U18) had a break out performance earlier in the season, which earned him the Most Valuable Player of the game, and the opportunity to sign on full time for the men.

Selby excelled going forward and became only the second ever player from Crawley to join the Division 1 Men’s team full-time, with Alex Barbary (Ifield) sigining on this season too.

Georges Tchuako & Colin Luzinda were invited to the England Development U15 and U14 squads this season, becoming the town’s second and third nationally recognised players, with Denny Burling (Ifield) playing for the U15s and U16s a couple of seasons ago.
