BATTING LETS LITTLEHAMPTON DOWN

LITTLEHAMPTON captain Paul Wells must be tearing his hair out after Saturday's lethargic batting display which was the primary factor behind his team's defeat by a below-strength Preston Nomads at the Sportsfield in Sussex League Division Two.

Benn Challen and Gary Tester were going along nicely at 100-2 when Tester was leg-before to Jonston Graves and the first of two collapses ensued.

Steve Kirkham, who really has to get his head round playing mature, first-team cricket, was out soon afterwards for 10.

Then Challen and Robin Ward put on a flowing 59, during which time Challen reached his half-century. Challen tried to flick a Graves delivery over the mid-wicket boundary, but was held on the line for 87, which included seven fours and two sixes.
