Boiling's farewell to Mussels is bitter sweet

MIDFIELDER Ben Boiling and Shoreham Football Club had it all planned on Saturday. After nine seasons' service to the Musselmen, he was playing his last game before moving to Norway. And to mark his final 90 minutes, they would present him with a commemorative plaque.

After five minutes, Boiling was in agony. Not hit by the anguish or sadness of beginning his farewell appearance but by a serious knee injury. Instead of striding off with pride towards a grateful presentation, he made his departure horizontally on a stretcher towards hospital.

On a crisply colder afternoon, Shoreham came from behind to claim a hard-earned and deserved point, 1-1 at home to high-flying Crowborough.
