The 19-year-old from Pett will compete in the junior women’s event at Hyeres in the south of France on Sunday December 13.

Baker is part of a GB team that is arguably the strongest sent to a European Championships, in an event which GB’s junior women have tended to dominate over the past few years.

She received her fourth Great Britain selection thanks to a gutsy fifth place finish at the European Cross-Country Trials in Liverpool last weekend.

Baker was delighted with her call-up and is extremely motivated to bring back team gold for GB, as well as put in an individual performance of note at an event which will be shown live on BBC television.

The Royal Holloway University of London student is determined to put behind her the disappointment of her performance at the European Junior Athletics Championships in Sweden during the summer. She was second favourite in the 5,000m only to succumb to illness on the day.

Baker has had a good early season thus far, leading her Aldershot, Farnham & District AC team to gold in the National Cross-Country Relays last month with the added bonus of being the cover girl on that week’s edition of Athletics Weekly.
