Carey stars for Sussex Schools

BEXHILL HIGH pupil Lee Carey was a key member of the Sussex Schools' under-16 side which lifted the English Schools FA Premier League Inter-County Trophy on Sunday.

Carey played the 90 minutes as Sussex won 3-0 against the weaker than expected challenge of Shropshire at Leyton Orient's Brisbane Road Ground. Dean Cox (Haywards Heath), Ryan McMillan (Brighton) and Danny Turner (Brighton) grabbed the goals.

Carey said: "It was good. First half was better than the second half but we should have beaten them more than 3-0. I thought they would be better than what they were."

The 15-year-old central midfielder will now re-charge his batteries for a couple of months after a draining season before taking up a three-year YTS scholarship with Brighton & Hove Albion in July.
