Cornish praises better atmosphere

Paddy Cornish praised the improved atmosphere in the South Saxons camp last weekend.

The South Hockey League Sussex Area - Division One leaders put the squabbles of the 7-2 victory at Crawley II a fortnight ago behind them during the 7-1 win away to East Grinstead IV.

Saxons captain Cornish, pictured, said: “I was pleased with the change in attitude from the week before. It was a much better performance and it was good to see people enjoying themselves.”

The Horntye Park Sports Complex-based club remains four points clear of second-placed Horsham II and the gap to third-placed Penguin is now six points after the Worthing side drew 3-3 at home to eighth-placed Southwick.

Saxons will take on Lewes III in their final home game before the festive break tomorrow (Saturday). Saxons finished just three points above Lewes last term, but are already seven clear of them this time around.

With Jamie Busbridge and Oscar Rogers likely to be sidelined by injury until the new year, Saxons expect to be unchanged. Pete Watters is set to continue his self-imposed exile. Push-back is 1.30pm.
