Johnson’s side will host the Sussex Cricket League Division Two leaders tomorrow (Saturday) and he’s hoping that his men can inflict Eastbourne’s first league defeat of the campaign.

“We’re going into the game aiming to win it,” Johnson said. “Not only that, but we want 30 points as well, and to really close the gap between themselves and us.

“Taking a maximum against them - the biggest club in the division - would be a huge confidence boost for us going forward, especially after last weekend’s result.”

Bexhill lost for the first time in the league this season at Ifield last time, while Eastbourne were held to a draw by a plucky Crowhurst Park side. Bexhill have won both their home fixtures so far and Eastbourne have an identical record on their travels.

“Crowhurst Park did very well,” Johnson continued. “They contained Eastbourne well, which is a tactic I expect most will employ this season. For us, though, we’re looking to win it.”

A strong batting performance could be key for them to win. “We’re due - and I’m due - a big score with the bat,” Johnson said. “Hopefully it’ll come this week.” Play will get underway from 1pm at The Polegrove.
