Cricket trio to face Sussex

Three leading cricketers from the area are set to take on Sussex on Thursday May 26.

Hastings Priory pair Jason Finch and John Morgan, and Bexhill ace Malcolm Johnson have been selected to represent the Sussex Cricket League in a Twenty20 game against a Sussex CCC XI at The County Ground, Hove.

Hard-hitting batsman and spin bowler Finch, 41, played in three list A matches for the Sussex Cricket Board from 2002-03. The MCC member has also had four spells as Priory captain, including their last title win in 2003.

Strike bowler and middle order batsman Morgan, 34, played in seven list A matches for the Sussex Cricket Board from 2000-02 and had a trial at Derbyshire. He too has skippered Priory from 2006-07.

Left-handed opening batsman Johnson has played for Sussex at second team, academy, under-17 and under-15 levels, and has won the county’s young player of the year award.

Johnson was Bexhill’s leading scorer in the Premier Division of the Sussex League last summer with 574 runs at an average of 33.76, including two centuries. He is the club’s vice-captain this year.

Sussex CCC will be using the match, which will start at 6pm and finish under floodlights, as a warm-up for their Friends Life t20 programme which will get underway a week later.

The Sussex League has named a 15-man squad for a fixture which will also mark the return of Eastbourne paceman James Kirtley to The County Ground with 11 to bat.
