Priory edged home by two wickets away to Ansty on Saturday, a result which moved them into the second and final Sussex Cricket League Division Two promotion spot.

Ansty were all out for 167 in 42.5 overs after winning the toss and choosing to bat. Priory quickly reduced their hosts to 13-2 with Adam Barton - fresh off his eight-wicket haul the previous weekend - making the initial breakthrough followed by a George Campbell run out.

They picked up wickets steadily rather than rapidly thereafter as Grove Venter (64) batted Ansty into the game until being bowled by Jed O’Brien to leave the score 98-5.

Ansty advanced to 151-6 before losing their final four wickets for 16 runs, starting with Campbell dismissing Richard Smith for 25. O’Brien finished with 4-25 from 10.5 overs to go past 50 league wickets for the season and Elliot Hooper claimed 2-43.

Priory eventually reached their target in 50.3 overs, but it certainly wasn’t straightforward even though they appeared well on course at 117-2. Joe Billings scored 29 at the top of order before Campbell (24) and Harry Finch (50) put on 63 for the third wicket.

Three wickets went down for just six runs to leave the visitors 146-7 before John Morgan (10 not out) and Jake Woolley (12 not out) got them over the line.
